The Trump Administration's Response to Covid-19

In my opinion the Trump administration's response to coronavirus has been lackluster to say the least. While the response has picked up as of late (posted as of 3/22/2020), it is still not nearly as large or as comprehensive as it should be. It didn't start well either. Here is a timeline of events as well as my opinion on them:

Timeline
November 17th, 2019 - First case of coronavirus discovered
Too soon for any action from any government

December 31st, 2019 - The coronavirus starts to spread
Chinese government response, too soon for any other government

January 11th, 2020 - First confirmed fatality
As of now, it was unknown that human to human transmission was possible, so no response

The Trump administration should have started some sort of response, however small, after this. It is forgivable, though questionable, that there was no response at this point, due to the Chinese government covering the severity of the infection.

This is where the Trump administration should have started it's response, and while it did, it was too little. By now it has been established that coronavirus has human to human transmission, so quarantines of the areas where the sick people would be in order.

This is surprising. By now it has been established that human to human transmission is possible, and it is obviously a big enough threat that China is willing to shut down an entire province, so why hasn't the administration done anything domestically? Restricting immigration won't do anything if the virus is already in US cites.

The main point here is essentially the same throughout. Why wasn't this done earlier? Italy had undergone quarantine, it has spread through South Korea and Japan, and has been in America for a long time now. Why was it this delayed? This hesitation to act from the Trump administration has allowed the virus to spread much quicker than it would have normally

This brings us to modern day. The response is still disappointing. The CDC is unable to provide real tests, and tests only after symptoms have been shown. For those of you who don't know, coronavirus is able to spread before it shows symptoms. This focus on treatment and not prevention by both the CDC and the Trump administration is baffling. Why are we allowing the virus to spread instead of trying to counter it beforehand? Even now, the US is not under quarantine, it is under "self-isolation." This means it is recommended that people do not go outside and hangout. This level of inactivity for a global pandemic is ridiculous and serious action needs to be taken as soon as possible
